Hi,

Can I create a lot of subdomains for purpose of linking them to each other and sort of create one big link network?

Search engines can (not sure) penalize you for this if you have lots of identical subdomains. It's like a link farm which contains nothing but links. Directories which contain nothing but links are also poor quality websites that often end up dumped in the supplementary index.

Google more than Yahoo, MSN is now looking more at quality of content to determine it's position in the serps.

My two cents

It's tempting I know, but you'd just be wasting your time - you need links from different Class C IP addresses to do any real good!
